# eDocument Tools > Free, independent browser tools that view and validate electronic business documents, plus a server-side Validation API for developers. Documents opened in the browser tools are read and checked entirely in the visitor browser and are never uploaded. eDocument Tools is an independent developer utility. It is not a tax authority, not an official government submission service, and not an archiving service. It cannot file, clear, transmit or store a document, and a result it reports is a statement about a document measured against pinned published rule packages, never a statement that any authority has accepted that document. Document processing in the browser tools is client-side. A file selected in a viewer or validator is parsed, schema-checked and rule-checked inside the browser tab; it is not sent to this site, to an authority, or to any third party. Two things work differently and are described on the privacy page: the contact form, which is ordinary email, and the Validation API, where a developer deliberately uploads a document from their own server. An API upload is processed in memory, is not stored, is not logged and is not used to train anything; only per-day request and byte counts are kept. The Validation API is a separate, server-side HTTP interface in private beta. It requires a developer account and a bearer API key, it validates one document per request against one explicitly named target, and it never guesses a country or profile. Its public target ids are frozen and name a pinned rule-set release; there is no "latest" alias. A document that fails validation is answered with HTTP 200 and a report, never with a 4xx. The documentation pages listed below are the authoritative description, and the OpenAPI 3.1 contract is published at /api/openapi.json. What it currently does: reads and validates OASIS UBL 2.1 invoices and credit notes; reads UN/CEFACT Cross Industry Invoice (CII) documents; inspects and validates Factur-X hybrid PDF/A-3 invoices; runs the EN 16931 semantic rule set; and validates French e-invoicing documents against the official FNFE-MPE France_RFE 1.4.0.04 release, including the EXTENDED-CTC-FR profile and the BR-FR national rules. Every rule package it executes is committed to the project with a SHA-256 checksum and served from this origin, so a validation result cannot change because an upstream repository changed. Validation reports state each layer separately, including layers that did not run. Country modules currently published: France (Factur-X 1.09.2, EXTENDED-CTC-FR, CII D22B, UBL 2.1); Greece (AADE myDATA v2.0.2, Peppol BIS Billing 3.0). ## Tools - [Tools](https://edocumenttools.com/en/tools): Browse every viewer and validator. - [UBL Viewer](https://edocumenttools.com/en/tools/ubl-viewer): Read a UBL 2.1 Invoice or CreditNote as a structured document. - [CII Viewer](https://edocumenttools.com/en/tools/cii-viewer): Read a UN/CEFACT Cross Industry Invoice as a structured document. - [UBL Validator](https://edocumenttools.com/en/tools/ubl-validator): Schema and EN 16931 rule validation for UBL 2.1 invoices. - [Factur-X Viewer](https://edocumenttools.com/en/tools/factur-x-viewer): Extract and read the CII XML embedded in a Factur-X PDF. - [Factur-X Validator](https://edocumenttools.com/en/tools/factur-x-validator): Inspect a Factur-X PDF and validate the invoice embedded in it. - [France e-invoice validator](https://edocumenttools.com/en/tools/france-e-invoice-validator): Official French business rules for UBL, CII and Factur-X invoices. - [myDATA Validator](https://edocumenttools.com/en/tools/mydata-validator): Official AADE myDATA v2.0.2 schema validation for Greek documents. ## Standards - [UBL 2.1](https://edocumenttools.com/en/standards/ubl): How a UBL 2.1 invoice document is structured. - [UN/CEFACT CII](https://edocumenttools.com/en/standards/cii): How a Cross Industry Invoice is structured, and what D22B means. - [EN 16931](https://edocumenttools.com/en/standards/en16931): The European semantic model behind UBL and CII e-invoices. - [Factur-X](https://edocumenttools.com/en/standards/factur-x): The hybrid PDF/A-3 invoice format used in France and Germany. ## Countries - [France](https://edocumenttools.com/en/france): Formats, specifications and local validation for French e-invoicing. - [Greece](https://edocumenttools.com/en/greece): myDATA structures, goods movement and local validation for Greek documents. ## Guides - [French e-invoicing 2026–2027](https://edocumenttools.com/en/guides/france-e-invoicing-2026-2027): Who must receive and issue e-invoices in France, and from when. - [Validating a Factur-X invoice](https://edocumenttools.com/en/guides/validate-factur-x): The checks that catch a broken Factur-X before your customer does. - [Factur-X, UBL and CII compared](https://edocumenttools.com/en/guides/factur-x-ubl-cii): The three accepted formats side by side, and how to choose. ## Validation API - [Validation API](https://edocumenttools.com/en/developers): Validate electronic documents from your own backend. - [Getting started](https://edocumenttools.com/en/developers/getting-started): Account to first validated document, in seven steps. - [Authentication](https://edocumenttools.com/en/developers/authentication): Bearer API keys, target restrictions and safe rotation. - [Validating documents](https://edocumenttools.com/en/developers/validation): The validate endpoint, and how to read its report. - [Target catalogue](https://edocumenttools.com/en/developers/targets): Every executable target, with its version and limits. - [Errors](https://edocumenttools.com/en/developers/errors): Every error code, and what to do about each one. - [Rate limits and quota](https://edocumenttools.com/en/developers/limits): Two separate limits, and the file sizes accepted. ## Legal and Privacy - [Terms of Use](https://edocumenttools.com/en/terms): What the site offers, and where responsibility sits. - [Developer and API Terms](https://edocumenttools.com/en/api-terms): Terms for developer accounts and the Validation API. - [Disclaimer](https://edocumenttools.com/en/disclaimer): What a validation result does not prove. - [Legal Notice](https://edocumenttools.com/en/legal-notice): Publisher, hosting and contact details for this site. - [Contact](https://edocumenttools.com/en/contact): Questions, bug reports and anything else about this site. - [Privacy](https://edocumenttools.com/en/privacy): What happens to your files and your data. ## Optional - [Home](https://edocumenttools.com/en): Free browser tools for electronic business documents. - [Accueil (fr)](https://edocumenttools.com/fr): Every page listed above also exists under /fr/ in that language. - [OpenAPI 3.1 contract](https://edocumenttools.com/api/openapi.json): The machine-readable description of the Validation API, generated from the same source the server runs. - [Sitemap](https://edocumenttools.com/sitemap.xml): Every canonical URL, with its language alternates.
